Peter B Crumbaker passed away on Saturday November 26, 2022, at the age of 44. Peter grew up in the Mount Baker neighborhood of Seattle, graduated from Eastside Catholic High School, and later Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. As a young adult he moved to Columbia City, Seattle, where he began raising his young family. Pete was the loving, floor-wrestling, belly-laughing father of two young boys, Jackson Crumbaker, 8, and Dean Crumbaker, 6. He was joyously committed to his wife, Emelie Crumbaker of Duxbury, Massachusetts, throughout fourteen beautiful years. He is also survived by his brother, Matt Crumbaker, of Portland, Oregon, and his parents, Gina and Greg Crumbaker of Mount Baker Seattle. Peter was the second-generation family business owner and CEO of Misty Mountain Manufacturing in Georgetown, Seattle.
Peter's life was cut short by an unknown allergy from anaphlactic shock, though he truly lived the time he had to the fullest. Let us remind you how Pete loved food: hot wings, osso buco, calamari, deviled eggs, rabbit hash, oysters, ribs, cheeses, lobster, dungeness crab, heirloom tomatoes, salmon, salami, triscuits, nuts, tacos, jalapeno poppers, nachos. He loved fly fishing, camping, fires, saunas, a weekend with his brother, an escape with his wife, easy weekends with the boys. He loved a bargain, a laugh, wearing outrageous sunglasses and t-shirts that you had to ask about.
Pete was an excellent observer of people and understood them. His friends adored him, each noting that they had a unique relationship with him steeped in old jokes. His employees of Misty Mountain called him 'Bossy' in the best way. His old friends called him 'Skippy'. His children called him Daddy. Our hearts are forever opened by the pain of his loss as well as the inspiration he leaves for us to be more like him. Pete would go on that fishing trip with his dad and his brother. Pete would laugh at his own jokes for as long as he wanted. He would say yes when the boys wanted to see him backflip off the diving board. He would take off his shirt for any remotely appropriate occasion. Peter means 'rock', he personified it in the warmest, most human way. We are left with his encouragement to get on with our own joy, and we are grateful for what he taught us as much as we are heartbroken to move forward without him.
Wake and visitation services are held at Columbia Funeral Home (4567 Rainier Ave S) on Dec 9th from 3 – 8 pm. Memorial services will be held Saturday Dec 10th at 4pm at Mt Baker Park Presbyterian Church (3201 Hunter Blvd S). All are welcome for both public events. Please join us to say goodbye to Peter.
We know that everyone wants to help support Emelie and the boys at this difficult time. She asks that you channel the money you might spend on flowers or donations and put them into something Pete would love for yourself, your house, your family, or your community. Plant a tree, build a fire pit, buy that beer fridge you have wanted, put a bench in your local park, upgrade your car speaker system, go on that fishing trip. Please do post the photos here and leave a caption. Emelie and the boys will plan to visit all these points of light to carry through darker times ahead.
